We also own a restaurant with delivery and thought it might help us avoid traffic jams for our delivery drivers. All sorts of things going on around you that you are probably not aware of.
Also check out this website for all of your local emergency frequencies.[.]. We had the weather radio on last night during a severe thunder storm and heard a tornado was spotted less than 6 miles from us.
We live in a hollow in a very rural area and have no problem with reception. I would suggest asking a local law enforcement officer if they use a 10-code system and look on the internet for the breakdown of those codes.
I bought this for Christmas as a present for my wife, we live in a very rural area and thought this would be great to keep tabs on the emergencies in the area. It has done both. Some of the reviews have concerns with the ease of programing, pretty simple and straight forward.if you can work basic electronics you should have no problem using this scanner.very imformative and eye opening if you have never used one.
Very useful indeed.
Returning it as the headphone output is very bad, otherwise very nice model. Sad I can't use it.
I really like being able to categorize signal types (air, fire, police, CB, etc) by number and then select which ones I want to scan for at any given time. I've noticed no bleedover from the WX channels. The only negative I can think of is the lack of a sleep function, which would have been intuitive given it does have an alarm function. Other than that, the scanner is quality. Like other reviewers, I found it a bit difficult to get the hang of programming the channels, but did eventually figure it out, with the help of the manual.
Never did receive anything off of it except weather updates. This scanner was way too complicated to run. Uniden Support was not very helpful either.
I actually get very good reception. There was no trouble setting it up. Still I like it. It is not bad, but there must be a bit better. My biggest gripe is you can not see the display unless you are right on top of the unit. There is only one alarm so be forewarned that this may not replace your clock radio.
